50+ Black-Owned Candle Shops to Check Out

Black lives matter. To celebrate Juneteenth 2020, I put together a list of Black-owned candle shops to check out. Supporting small businesses has been a way for me to feel like I’m giving back to smaller communities, instead of throwing money into to big corporations. I bookmarked tons of Black-owned candle shops from various threads on Twitter and other social media sites, but I wanted to compile a list somewhere concrete to come back to later.

I highly recommend subscribing to these shops on social media, or signing up for their mailing lists, as many have sold out of their products as a result of the push to support Black-owned businesses during the past month. The goal is to support these shops long term, and to keep coming back, so don’t be discouraged if something is sold out! It just means more things to order later. There’s every kind of style of candle, so please look at the entire list!

Each image includes a direct link to where you can purchase candles, and their Instagram (or other social media) account. Click the image OR the name of the shop to go to their site, and click their Instagram username to be taken to their Instagram page. I am making no money by sharing these shops, I just want to showcase them :)

Enjoy!

If something you see like is sold out, follow the shop! Sign up to their mailing list and follow them on Instagram, and order when things come back in stock. I hope the push to support BIPOC-owned shops is long-term, rather than a short trend, so feel free to bookmark this list to come back later!

As a white person, I’m using Juneteenth to educate myself more on specific events I never learned from my time in school. I also plan on watching Criterion Channel’s streaming version of Black Panthers, a short documentary from 1970. Criterion Channel also has this selection of films titled Black Lives streaming for free currently. This Twitter thread also has more information and a list of films on Netflix that feature Black Joy!

If you want to further educate yourself and support the Black Lives Matter movement, I recommend checking this Carrd page with a huge list of resources. It includes petitions to sign, politicians to contact, protest information, and more resources for education against racism.

I want to shout out Stephano for their post A Big List of Black-Owned Kawaii Brands, which inspired me to make this post.

If you want to be added to this list, or are on this list and want to contact me, please DM me on Instagram.

hello 2019!

I’d consider myself a sentimental person, and I love the sense of a fresh start that the new year gives me. The end of 2018 also saw me starting a new job, which I really love, so overall I have really positive feelings about 2019!

One thing I had been wanting to do for a while was update my blog’s layout, and I finally did it!

As a refresher, this is how my blog used to look:

And of course, you can see how it looks now!

Next is to update that circular pic in the corner… My hair is completely different now lol.

Also, check out the navigation links I added! I’ve changed the way you view past posts, so it’s easier to look back on posts within certain categories. It also reminds me that I want to most much more often! Honestly, this blog is almost more like a diary/scrapbook for myself, so I want to focus more on doing what makes me happy more than what gets views.

Anyways, I’m excited to walk into 2019 with a clean, fresh blog layout!

xoxo,
katie
